Meet Our Instructors!

Laurie Clarke

Owner and Primary Instructor


Laurie lives in Morgan Hill with her husband and her two very active kids.  She has been decorating since 1997 and teaching since 2004.  She enjoys, more than anything, the creative aspect of decorating - using household items as decorating tools and re-purposing hardware.  Her specialty is creating edible art that can be mistaken for the real thing.  Laurie's goal is to teach aspiring decorators everywhere that not everything is as difficult as it looks.  A few things are, but it's as important to find the courage to try them as it is to succeed.



  • Competed on international TV on Food Network's "Sugar Dome" Episode 1: A Dragon's Tale
  • Taught Wilton classes for several years at Michaels stores:  trained four Wilton instructors and taught 200+ students (and 200+ more since beginning SweetCelebrations.US)
  • Has taken dozens of classes with nationally renowned instructors including many from Food Network Challenge and Ultimate Cake-Off. 
  • Has created more than 300 cakes for friends and family.
  • Finalist in a national Wilton Cake Decorating contest 1998, various awards for competition cakes and online contests.
  • Is the Founder and President of Sweet Things of Silicon Valley Cake Club - www.sweetthingscakeclub.com - and Past President of the Fremont Frosters Cake Club. Particiates in statewide cake clubs: California Cake Club (3Cs), California Cookie Cutter Collectors' Club (CACCCC)
  • Director and MC of several large cake decorating events: Demonstrations with local and renowned decorators, banquets, breakfasts, meetings and cake displays
  • Has acted as Judge many times in local and one state-wide competitions
  • Has had over 162 people mistake her cakes for other inanimate objects (Aug. 1, 2014)
  • LOVES teaching and sharing information!

Wendy's main business is wholesale creation and distribution of gelatin desserts, tres leches cakes and flan for bakeries and cafes


She has tremendous skills in whipped icing cakes for weddings, birthdays, quinceaneras and other events and has created many sculpted and fondant-wrapped creations.  Her gelatin "cakes" are wonderful but her gelatin flowers (gelatinas artisticas -- jello desserts with flowers floating inside (created with colored gelatin using syringes) are amazing!

We offer classes for beginners through professionals in all areas of cake decoration and other edible arts.  Dedicated, enthusiastic instructors, small class sizes and private lessons ensure every student gets the attention they need to feel confident about their creations.  We're also available to answer general questions and offer emergency advice anytime you need us.
